However, prolonged exposure to high temperatures (450–850°C) can lead to carbide precipitation, reducing corrosion resistance—a concern mitigated in the low-carbon variant, 304L. 4. Hygiene & Aesthetics Its non-porous surface resists bacterial growth, making it ideal for food handling, kitchen equipment, and medical devices. The smooth, shiny finish also enhances its appeal in architectural applications like handrails, countertops, and decorative panels. Common Applications - Food & Beverage Industry: Tanks, piping, and processing equipment. - Architecture: Exterior cladding, railings, and trim. - Medical Field: Surgical instruments and storage containers. - Household Items: Sinks, cookware, and appliances. Limitations While 304 stainless steel is highly versatile, it is not suitable for highly acidic or chloride-rich environments without additional protection. For such conditions, 316 stainless steel or specialized coatings may be preferred.
